Too few classic ballets feature mad inventors and slapstick comedy, that's what I say.

We went to see the Hong Kong Ballet's production of Coppelia on Saturday evening, way out in the wilds of Sha Tin.

This was our attempt to see something more traditionally 'classical' after our first ballet trip to Snow White a few months ago (or possibly last year, even - I forget). I was a little wary at the phrase 'comic ballet', but indeed the funny bits were funny, and the dancing was excellent, and I found I enjoyed it a bit more than Snow White. I think in part this was because it was music composed specifically for ballet, rather than the ballet being, as in Snow White, tacked on to an existing composition.

Would recommend to a friend.
