Dream Sequence

John Tynes recently posted a rather scary little incident over on his Dispatches From Revland:

"I woke up about half an hour ago, and then I was sort of drifting in and out of sleep. My cell phone rang, but only in my mind. I answered it and it was a dream character from earlier in the night calling, thus initiating a new dream.

He said I’d called him earlier and left a message about having one of my cat’s tails removed. We began talking about what day this could happen on. Then I realized that no, wait, there was no reason to remove one of my cat’s tails. And not only that, but this was a dream. And once I realized that, I knew I was in bed awake.

So I lay there awake sorting this out, and actually making plans to get up and write this journal entry about the experience, when suddenly the dream character asserted himself and said very clearly, “So you think this is a dream. But then you’re the one who thinks a reflection in a mirror is nothing more than light bouncing off a silvered glass.”

At that point I got the fuck out of bed. "
